your guide to the perfect website

Should I Minimize Graphics, Flash And Scripts?

Although expert scripting and flash use can add jaw dropping effects to an otherwise standard website, overuse of graphics often leads to an unclean and aggravating web experience. As a general rule of thumb for web designers, layouts should be as clean as possible. On an aesthetic level, styles should be used in place of scripts whenever possible. This practice usually results in an extremely professional looking web layout. Because some graphics can take noticeable time to load on slower connections, text and styles should be used in place of logo graphics. With a little work and creativity, and graphic with text can easily be replaced.

Flash usage is quite controversial in the web design community. More often than not, flash does not play well with web standards. Flash also can be resource intensive, and many internet users have plug-ins installed to disable flash effects. The most important factor for determining the usage of flash for a web start-up is that information placed in your flash effects will not appear in search engines.

Having a successful design for a website is a direct result of a clean crisp layout and efficient operation related to the sites purpose. Graphics, Flash and Scripts are just there to enhance and should be used sparingly.
